If you think you would like to sponsor a child- check out the links to the left.
Cindy and I started sponsoring a child in 1999. Today we are extremely blessed to be able to sponsor (3) children through Christian Childrens Fund. Why are we sharing this with you?
Because it is our hope that by sharing this wonderful experience - you may desire to sponsor a child also. God knows there are plenty of children in need. There is no pressure. If you have any questions feel free to contact us for any additional info.
Why did we pick Christian Children's Fund? There may well be better charities out there that we have not heard of. We used to send periodic donations to other charities until we started to research them on the internet. We found that Christian Childrens Fund had a solid reputation and that a larger percentage of monies donated went to people that it was intended for instead of the pockets of the administrators. If you have a different charity in mind or wish to check on one that you are participating with- click on the Charity Watchdog button to the left and check them out.
Our sponsored children (ages as of Jan 2008)
Sandro age 13, Pedro age 10 and Elielson age 12 all live in Brazil. All three are part of the same CCF Project. They live in the interior of the State of Cera, one of the poorest on the Brazilian Northeast. The per-capita family income is less than $35 dollars per month or about 1/4th the countries minimum wage. By supporting children they get a nutritional evaluation, immunizations, enrolled in school and the family is eligible for extra help also. Recently one of the children wrote us telling how they used a portion of the money we sent to buy needed building materials. Because they are in the program, Christian Childrens Fund matched the money they put in, allowing them to get more materials.
Here is a little more about each Child.
Sandro Lourenco dos Anjos
Sandro lives with his mother, stepfather, sister (Israelina) and two brothers (Israel and Anderson). He has written us many times over the years and either starts and/or ends his letters with many hugs and kisses to us. He likes to draw and creates small paper souvenirs that the sends us regularly along with his drawings. Sandro's step father is a farm laborer. Sandro's mother has often written us letters telling us how Sandro is doing in school. It brings tears to our eyes when she passionately thanks us for being part of their lives.
Pedro Hugo Goncalves Pereira
Pedro lives with his great grandma (Laura), his aunt (Dorinha) and his uncle (Salviano). Because there is little work where he lives, his mother was forced to take work in Sao Palo which is very far from where Pedro lives. From what I gather- he does not have contact with his father. Pedro likes math, portuguese, studying and loves to read. Pedro says he wants to be a Doctor when he grows up. He likes to ride bicycles and play soccer. The city that he lives in has about 32,000 residents. Pedro writes us very enthusiastically sending us drawings and things that he makes at the Christian Childrens Fund office.
Elielson Almeida Costa
Elielson lives with his mother and stepfather and two Sisters (Eliana and Eliene). His father abandon him and his stepfather has a low paying job. They live in an agricultural community. Elielson's family income is about $11 dollars per month. Elielson seems to be very happy and enjoys playing with his friends. He does not talk about school much- I gather that he does not like it as much as the other two boys do.

It has been very rewarding to have the opportunity to help someone truly in need and see the fruits that it bears. As we go about living our lives we need to pause and be thankful for the blessings that we have and where possible, help others with the burdens they carry. Although I have never traveled abroad, I am well aware that our life style and the conditions that we live in here are a far higher standard of living than nearly 98 % of the worlds inhabitants. Think about that for a moment. So enjoy your station in life and thank God above for the life given you. Where and when possible- reach out and touch the life of another.
